We’re looking for a Senior Project Manager to join Vincit’s Custom Software business and lead demanding customer projects where stakeholder complexity, conflicting requirements, commercial pressure or delivery challenges require experienced leadership.

This isn’t about adding heavier project administration. It’s about taking what makes an exceptional Project Manager – customer understanding, commercial judgement, delivery ownership, negotiation and the ability to make difficult situations move – and applying it where projects need stronger control or active recovery.

We’re looking for someone with a strong foundation in consultancy project management who has already handled complex customer organisations, difficult negotiations and deliveries where the original plan was no longer enough.

What is the job like, really? 🤔

As a Senior Project Manager, you’ll take ownership of demanding custom software projects and work closely with customers and delivery teams to make sure we deliver the right things – successfully and profitably.

But there’s an important twist. Some projects become difficult for reasons that have little to do with technology. Stakeholders are not united. Decision authority is unclear. Additional and conflicting requirements appear after commitments have been made. Agreed ways of working are challenged, and scope, schedule and commercial reality begin to diverge. In this role, you’ll create clarity in those situations. You’ll establish decision-making, make consequences visible, negotiate workable boundaries and restore delivery control while maintaining a constructive customer relationship.

This is also a commercial role. You’ll maintain a credible project forecast, understand how pricing, staffing, subcontracting and unbilled work affect profitability, and handle changes through clear customer agreements rather than allowing uncertainty to become margin leakage.

💫 Complex project delivery & profitability – Own demanding software projects, keeping scope, forecasts, timelines, risks and profitability under control.

💫 Project recovery – Assess deliveries under pressure, reconstruct the facts, establish a credible recovery plan and lead execution until control has been restored.

💫 Customer leadership – Work with fragmented customer organisations, align stakeholders, clarify decision authority and reset expectations when necessary.

💫 Commercial ownership & negotiation – Handle estimates, scope changes, additional work, customer responsibilities, contract discussions and project re-baselining.

💫 Portfolio control – Identify projects requiring intervention, challenge forecasts and help distinguish genuine escalation from normal delivery noise.

💫 Teams & collaboration – Protect delivery teams from unresolved stakeholder conflict, remove blockers and create a clear path for executable work.

What are we looking for?

You’ll do well in this role if you understand both software delivery and the commercial reality of consultancy projects. You can move comfortably between steering groups, customer decision-makers and delivery teams, and you know how to turn a difficult situation into a plan people can act on.

You enjoy working with complex customer organisations. You can listen carefully, challenge directly and remain constructive when stakeholders disagree or expectations need to be reset. You understand that sometimes progress requires a decision, a change agreement, a re-baseline or an explicit stop to uncontrolled work.

You should also be comfortable supporting a wider delivery portfolio. This means recognising where intervention is needed, challenging optimistic assumptions and helping other Project Managers strengthen forecasting, governance, scope control and recovery practices.

Experience and skills we value

🎯 Strong experience managing customer-facing software projects, preferably in custom software, digital services or a consulting environment.

🎯 Demonstrated experience recovering a troubled project, re-establishing governance or taking control of a deteriorating delivery or commercial position.

🎯 Experience owning project budgets, Estimate at Completion, revenue, delivery costs, scope, resourcing and forecasting.

🎯 Practical understanding of customer rates, staffing mix, varying cost of work, utilisation, subcontracting margin and unbilled work.

🎯 Experience interpreting agreements and translating contractual responsibilities into project governance and customer discussions.

🎯 Commercial confidence to negotiate scope changes, additional work, delayed customer decisions, acceptance and project re-baselining.

🎯 Ability to work with conflicting stakeholders, unclear decision authority and complex formal and informal customer structures.

🎯 Ability to identify material portfolio risks, challenge forecasts and define proportionate interventions.

🎯 A good understanding of modern software delivery, cloud environments, integrations and multidisciplinary development teams.

🎯 Full professional proficiency in Finnish and English.

It’s a strong plus if you have:

🎯 Experience from finance, insurance or another regulated and security-sensitive sector.

🎯 Experience leading Azure integration, enterprise platform or multi-vendor deliveries.

🎯 Experience across fixed-price, target-price and flexible-budget contracts.

🎯 Experience with project portfolio reviews, escalation management or coaching other Project Managers.

🎯 Experience restoring customer trust after missed commitments or prolonged delivery conflict.
